How genetics influences our lives?

How would life be if there’re no genetics? How would it be if everyone would be identical? It’s impossible to know for certain, but there’s one thing we can be sure of. In various ways, future life will be very different from life today.

One point is that in today’s life we are already able to influence the increasing of vegetables, which is called genetic engineering. But there are lots of states in which gene manipulation is forbidden. Also Austria has the opinion, that consumers and producers should have a true choice to decide to which type of agricultural products they give preference. Another point is that we’re also able to clone, but there’re lots of aspects which are inhuman. Some researchers think of the possibility to cultivate humans, for organ donors only.

Recombinant DNA research involves potential dangers. Genetic engineering could create dangerous new forms of life, either accidently or deliberately. A host microorganism may acquire harmful characteristics as a result of insertion of foreign genes. For example plants arise, whose consequence will be that the original plant will die out. If disease-carrying microorganisms formed as a result of genetic manipulation escaped from laboratories, they could cause a variety of diseases.

In my opinion are positive and negative aspects on genetics. Without genetics lots of people would die because of cancer or other diseases and no one would be able to help. But there are also aspects which are inhuman, like I told before.

So, genetics have their good and bad points, like everything in life. I for one would want that resarchers will only take the positive points out of it.

"Death of a Salesman", Arthur Miller

What happens when a Salesman doesn’t want to travel anymore? When he shows everyone that he’s still the best, but he knows that it isn’t like that. The drama “Death of a Salesman”, by Arthur Miller, shows what happens when everything changes.

Willy Loman is a sixty-year-old traveling salesman. He is not able to keep his mind on street or on present because of that he gets in trouble. In the book he is in his mind always travelling between reality and memory focused on the moments where his life went wrong. When he starts being a salesman, he was one of the best. But as the time goes by he understood more and more that he isn’t well liked anymore. In the end he realizes that the only things you can count on are the things you can touch. His brother Ben, by now a successful man, wants to tell him that years ago. Despite this, Willy persisted that his success would come from being well liked.

Because of the travelling in time it’s sometimes really difficult to understand if it is real of if it is memory of Willy. Also the fact that Ben died is difficult to understand because Willy is very often talking to him

“Death of a Salesman” is a very interesting and engrossing book. It is described very detailed and Arthur Miller also adapted themes which are always on common, for example the changes of lifestyle habits and nature during the years. I think this is a book everyone should have read if this person is interested in a books that shows the globalization and the American dream.

Report Vorarlberg

To: Mr. Blake
From: Ines Peter
Subject: trips to Vorarlberg
Date: 18th October 2009

The purpose of this report is to show what Vorarlberg offers in view of the interests of young adults. This report will be focused on the following points: facilities/amenities, activities and special places in view of summer time. The following points summarize my key findings.

Facilities / amenities:
Vorarlberg is a gorgeous place for wellness. There are also lots of skate parks if you are into skateboarding. Vorarlberg’s mountains offer lots of thrilling mountain bike routes for every degree of difficulty. If you want to go out in the evenings there are lots of cocktail bars and restaurants where you can meet up with friends.

Activities:
In summer it is beautiful to go swimming. The best places are Bodensee in Bregenz and Baggersee in Brederis if you want to chill. Both of them are for free. At most evenings there are great festivals at Poolbar which is in Feldkirch. There are also good shopping facilities in Vorarlberg’s cities.

Special Places:
There are some places you must visit when you come to Vorarlberg. For example there is the “Bregenzer Festspiele” if you like musicals. Another beautiful place is the Muttersberg from where you can look over most parts of Vorarlberg. There are also some very interesting museums, for instance “Inatura”, where you can fell, smell and see the nature of local nature.

It is clear that Vorarlberg is a very small federal state, but despite of this it offers huge range of possibilities how to spend your leisure time.

Opinion Essay "My Ideal Family"

Everyone has his own definition of what a family should be like. The meaning of a family is different to each of us. Therefore by sociologists giving definitions to what a family is, we do not have a clear idea of what family is and not all definitions adept to all families. I strongly believe that there is no “ideal family”. In the following essay I will explain why.

My first point is the explanation why there is no perfect family setup. In my opinion it does not matter what the constellation of a family is. For example, if there is a mother, a father and two children, for most people it seems that this is a perfect family. But think of the situation that the father or mother is an alcoholic. No one knows, outwardly it appears that everyone is happy.
I would also say that it is not important if the parents are the “real” parents, this means that the children are adopted. For instance, most of the children who are adopted have a considerably better life than before.

Afterwards, I want to argue why there is no connection between family constellation and relationships between family members. The first point is that in most instances there is a better relationship between family members in single parent families. Because there is no rivalry between kinds and parent. Often young children are jealous on one parent. Another point is that a relationship consists of giving and receiving. In other words, there could be the perfect family, but if no one thinks about the others it is impossible to live happy together.

The last thing I want to show is that no classification exists, which is perfect for society. Neither a nuclear family nor any other family can live without any problems. This means that a family can look like the perfect family for years, always obliging and friendly. And from one day to the other the couple gets divorced because the husband was unfaithful. There is no guarantee that if you raise a family, you will always be as happy as you were at the beginning. Another thing is that every person in this world has another meaning of the family which is perfect for society. A person who lives in Africa has another idea of the perfect family than someone who lives in Austria.

In conclusion, the question “Which is the ideal family?” is really difficult to answer, because everyone has another opinion of it. Because of that there cannot be a ideal family which contains the meaning of everyone. It depends on many factors. You always have to look at all of them.

ESSAY: dreams, good or bad??

A dream is an issue everyone is involved with. On the one hand there are a lot of supporters which think dreams are important, on the other hand there are also opponents who say they are senselessly. In this essay I will look at the arguments of the supporters and opponents of dreams.

To start with, the supporters of dreams believe that dreams often help to solve problems by cleansing oneself and it also cleans the psyche of a human. The supporters also argue that dreams can sometimes predict the future. For example, if someone dreams about a bad thing which would happen in future and this person believes it, the person is able to change the future and protect herself from the bad things.

In contrast, the opponents of dreams point out that e.g. nightmares can keep someone awake and the loss of sleep can causes more stress the following day. In addition, the critics of this ideology doubt that dreams have anything to do with reality or have any real predictive value. For example, if someone has a lot of nightmares, this person will be scared about everything she dreamed. It’s impossible to live a normal life.

I’m convinced that there are a lot of good pro and con arguments, but it’s equally possible that dreams aren’t of equal importance for each individual.

To sum up, dreams is still a controversial topic and it’s unlikely that in future everyone will have the same opinion. While the supporters are obviously convinced that dreams are good for our mind and body, the opponents reject this idea, claiming that dreams causes more anxieties than recovery for mind. In my opinion dreams are very important for everyone of us.

"Dry your eyes" by "The Street"

“Dry your eyes“ is a song by “The Street“.
In the first stanza we can see that the lyrical I is sad and depressed about the fact that his girlfriend split up their relationship. The chorus shows how a good friend tries to comfort the love victim. The second stanza tells us how his life crashes and how he tries to get her back again by begging. He’s of the opinion that his life is empty without her. He wants to change what happened, but he isn’t able to. Finally he tells her that in past it was hard for him to tell her things, but the more he tells her the more she pulls away.

In my opinion this song expresses how dependent women and men are from each other. It also shows what happens if a couple splits up. The heard of the lyrical I is broken. He will do everything to get his ex-girlfriend back. When we listened to this song all of us got the impression of lovesickness.
